How to choose vacuum cleaners for home and apartment
When you start choosing a vacuum cleaner for your home or apartment, it is important to pay attention to the following parameters:
- Suction power;
- Type of dust collector;
- The presence of a wet cleaning function;
- Design and equipment;
- Device manufacturer brand.
Types of vacuum cleaners
Vacuum cleaners can be classified according to two criteria - design and cleaning type. In terms of design, they are divided into the following:
- Ordinary;
- Vertical;
- Handheld vacuum cleaners ;
- "2 in 1" (can be used as a vertical or handheld model);
- Robot vacuum cleaners .
Conventional vacuum cleaners
Conventional vacuum cleaners are of a traditional design. The dust collector and motor are housed in a single housing, connected by a flexible hose.
Advantages:
- Relatively low price and a very large selection of models;
- Minimal strain on hands during cleaning;
- Ability to easily clean hard-to-reach areas (for example, between closely spaced furniture).
Negative :
- Low mobility of the main block;
- Difficulty in storage.
Upright vacuum cleaners
The design of upright vacuum cleaners combines all the main elements - the dust bag, the brush, and the air intake housing, which are assembled on a single axis and in a single unit.
Advantages:
- Minimal energy loss during suction;
- Ease of storage;
- Minimal risk of pipe jamming.
Negative:
- Hands get very tired when cleaning for a long time;
- Vacuum cleaners are suitable for small apartments with a small amount of furniture;
- Difficulty cleaning upholstered furniture;
- Difficulty removing dust from narrow crevices - for example, between furniture.
Handheld vacuum cleaners
Handheld vacuum cleaners are very compact models, so they are suitable for cleaning furniture and removing dust from various hard-to-reach places. It should also be noted that due to their low power and small dust collector volume, they are inconvenient and impractical, especially if you need to clean the entire apartment.

Advantages:
- Cleaning of upholstered furniture;
- Can be used in the car or outdoors (for battery-powered models); easily cleans hard-to-reach areas.
Negative:
- Small dust tank capacity, which requires frequent cleaning.
"2 in 1" - Handheld Vacuum Cleaners
The “2 in 1” models are actually conventional upright vacuum cleaners that only operate on batteries, which makes them particularly mobile. In terms of dimensions, however, they correspond to conventional upright vacuum cleaners.

Advantages:
- Mobility;
- Ease of storage;
- Possibility of working with batteries.
Negative:
- High stress on the hands, which leads to fatigue;
- Needs to be charged. Cleaning is not possible with a discharged battery;
- Small volume of dust collector;
- Difficulty removing dust from narrow crevices.
Robot vacuum cleaners
Robot vacuum cleaners are structurally similar to conventional vacuum cleaners, but do not require human intervention. The devices are fully automated and move independently through rooms.

Advantages:
- Fully automatic operation;
- Virtually zero noise level;
- Possibility of daily or even multiple cleaning.
Negative:
- Robot vacuum cleaners are good devices for daily cleaning, but you will still have to periodically wash the floors yourself;
- Configuration required;
- Thresholds and other obstacles become insurmountable obstacles for the vacuum cleaner;
- Dust is collected only from the floor.
