Learn what parts a USB memory consists of
A USB flash drive is a data storage device that includes flash memory with an integrated USB interface. It is typically removable, rewritable, and much smaller than an optical disc. Most weigh less than 30g. Since it first appeared on the market in the late 2000s, like virtually all other computer storage devices, storage capacities have increased while prices have fallen.
As of March 2016, flash drives ranging from 8 to 256 gigabytes were commonly sold, with 512 GB and 1 terabyte units being less popular. As of 2018, 2 TB flash drives were the largest in terms of storage capacity. Some offer up to 100,000 write/erase cycles, depending on the exact type of memory chip used, and are believed to have a physical lifespan of 10 to 100 years under normal conditions.
USB flash drives use the USB Mass Storage Device Class standard, which is supported by modern operating systems such as Windows, Linux, macOS, and other Unix-like systems, as well as many BIOS boot ROMs. USB drives supporting USB 2.0 can store more data and transfer it faster than much larger optical discs such as CD-RW or DVD-RW discs. They can be read by many other systems such as the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, DVD players, and in-car entertainment.
USB memory consists of:
A USB flash drive consists of a small printed circuit board that carries the circuit elements and a USB connector, inside an electrically insulated and protected plastic, metal, or rubber case that can be slipped into a pocket or hung on a key chain.
For example, some are equipped with an I/O indicator LED that lights up or flashes when accessed. The USB connector may be protected by a removable cap or by being turned inside the drive housing, although it will not be damaged if exposed.
Most flash drives use a standard USB Type A connector, which allows them to be connected to a PC port, but there are also drives with other interfaces (e.g. micro-USB and USB-C ports). USB flash drives are powered by a computer via a USB connection. Some devices combine the functionality of a portable media player with USB flash memory;
