What types of TVs are there on the market?

In modern reality, we encounter countless advertisements every day that offer us to buy this or that type of television and emphasize their positive, often innovative features.

The goal of today's article is to provide a comprehensive overview of the types of television , at each stage of its development, from the earliest models to the latest models.

The history of televisions dates back to 1927, and today we can consider about ten different types of them:

CRT

A model that you could buy until the end of the 20th century. It was a box, powered by so-called "lamps", whose screen consisted of thousands of green, red or blue dots to produce an image. It is noteworthy that sales of this type of model were overtaken by more modern LCD screens only in 2007.

LCD and plasma screen televisions

Liquid crystal displays, with better viewing angles and unprecedented image quality at the time. They also operated on a kind of lamp, although the operating principle and technology were completely different.

HD (High Definition)

High-definition (HD) TVs have a display quality that is 5 times better than standard (usually 1280x720 or 1920x1080).

Simply put, they have more lines and a more detailed, colorful screen, which, by the way, allowed televisions to switch to HD display, and since 2006, a new history has begun.

3D (three dimensions)

At the end of 2010, a new trend appeared in cinemas around the world - 3D. These were not TVs, but this allowed major film studios to shoot new films specifically for this technology. It must be said that sales of 3D TV sets themselves fell, it was not so comfortable to sit in an armchair and put on glasses at home. According to recent data, only 7% of the UK population has watched a film or program shot in this technology at home at least once with similar glasses.

LED TV

Similar technology to LCD, with even thinner lamps.

There are two types of LED TVs: the first, which uses a combination of LED and <old> lamp technology, but is much more energy efficient, and the second, which uses LED lamps exclusively and has better display quality, but is characterized by a higher price and less energy saving ability.

Smart TV

TVs with built-in Internet access. Today, the leaders in sales from all major manufacturers are Smart models. It is actually a computer and a phone in a TV. For example, 37% of the US population at the end of last year used a Smart model.

OLED TV

OLED (organic light-emitting diode) TVs are a modern variation of LED. Their lamps are even thinner, about 1 mm thick.

Each pixel lights up individually and is 1000 times faster than its predecessors. Therefore, it is especially pleasant to watch sports competitions, etc.

Ultra HD or 4K TVs

The minimum resolution of these models is 3840×2160, 4 times more pixels than Full HD.

Their main advantage lies in the maximum detail. From the flowers to the facial features of the players, everything is very realistic and close to the real, outdoor shot.
