Demand for live Christmas trees is growing in the US

Despite protests from environmental organizations, demand for live Christmas trees in the US is constantly growing and, according to recent reports, reached its peak last New Year.

Demand for live Christmas trees is growing in the US

  • A total of 30 million live Christmas trees were sold for Christmas 2019,
  • Up to 350 million seedlings are currently growing in areas specially set up by farmers;
  • 80% of artificial Christmas trees worldwide are sold from China;
  • These North American trees grow in all 50 states of the United States and Canada;
  • Live Christmas trees, which are specially cut for the New Year to be renewed and easily "discarded" after they are no longer in use, are considered a product for use in other industries, while their artificial substitutes cannot meet this requirement;
  • Statistically, for every 1 fir tree cut down, 3 new ones are planted the following spring;
  • In total, there are about 15,000 farms of this type operating, employing 120,000 people;
  • The average growth period is 7 years. For small models, this period is 4 years, and for especially large firs, it is 15 years;
