Advantages and disadvantages of flash memory
Flash memory is a type of memory that erases and rewrites data with fast, energy-efficient access, however, flash memory remains viable even without an active power source.

Each chip in a flash memory contains a database of flash memory cells. Flash memories use electrical circuits to operate and modify data.
In flash memory, current flows between the source and drain of each cell. A transistor controls the flow of current, acting as an on-off switch. The <on> transistor allows electrons to flow into the cell, storing a 1 in binary code. The <off> transistor blocks the electrons and stores them as a 0.
The types of flash memory are: NOR and NAND flash memory. Their names reflect the logical types of information protection that each uses. The protection structure determines which option will be possible to execute as a result of the information input.
NOR has faster read speeds than NAND and can read and modify more accurately, but it has a higher price per byte. NAND has slower read speeds and can only access memory in blocks, not bytes, but it is cheaper than NOR.
Advantages and disadvantages of flash memory:
- The main drawback of most is that editing can take an unacceptably long time.
- Flash memory does not have an infinite lifespan. The use of high voltage fields eventually degrades the transistors.
- Because flash memory stores data without the use of moving mechanical parts, it requires less power to operate than older systems. Flash memory also stores data in a much more compact manner than a hard drive can.
