Beds and their development to the present day!
A carefully selected bed can provide years of comfort and become an attractive piece of furniture in any bedroom. Learn how to choose a bed for a good night's sleep
Throughout history, beds have been a feature of everyday life. As you know, the wealthy citizens of ancient Egypt and Rome had some great examples, but nowadays, it's not just the wealthy who are granted the privilege of a bed.

Today, with ever-evolving technology and a growing awareness of the importance of getting a better night’s sleep, consumers are faced with a greater choice when it comes to the important task of choosing the right bed frame and mattress. It’s not just about comfort – the bed’s appearance, size, storage capabilities and, of course, cost also play a big role.
Beds
Beds originated in the Middle Ages, when homeowners began to prop their primitive mattresses up on wooden benches. Beds are simply a raised frame - usually metal or wood - with a solid base that supports a softer mattress. They are designed with legs, a headboard and often a footboard. Today they come in a huge range of styles, from intricate wrought iron to simple wood.
Be sure to consider the impact your chosen bed will have on the look of the room, and keep in mind that there are some simple tricks you can use. A bed with a high headboard and footboard will always be dominant and will look much larger than the same design with a low footboard; keep this in mind if your room is small.

Similarly, a solid wood design will be more impressive than a delicate iron bed frame that allows light to filter through. Four-poster beds instantly add height and drama to a space and also give the user a sense of warmth, which is useful for large spaces. Low models are convenient in relatively small settings.
Auxiliary mattress
The mattress, often called the most vital part of a bed, is ultimately responsible for comfort, body support, and temperature regulation. Early mattresses were made from readily available materials such as wool, straw, feathers, or horsehair, often wrapped in a sack. Most mattress constructions are either spring-loaded or made from materials such as latex, viscoelastic, or polyurethane foam. There are a variety of spring systems, each offering their own benefits.

Open coil or sprung mattresses are the most commonly purchased and most economical option. Consisting of a network of springs, all interconnected, they distribute body weight evenly across the entire surface with a reinforcing border or wire edges and machine-sewn sides.
