Lasers and the three main types of levels!

Lasers and levels have been on the market for several years, but only recently have they become a staple tool for professionals in the construction industry. They are control tools based on a laser beam projector.

A projector projects one or more fixed lines or dots along a horizontal and/or vertical axis, allowing the person using it to align their work with these lines or dots. Some laser levels combine lines and dots.

Using a laser and level

Lasers and levels are used for vertical, horizontal, square, angle, slope and point transfer alignment. Contractors use line laser levels to begin a number of projects, including drywall installation, HVAC, ceiling construction, rafter alignment, windows and doors, sprinkler installation and tile and flooring.

Plumbers use this device to align plumbing, walls, and metal studs. It is also used in plumbing to hold walls together, in vertical applications, in the construction of taller walls. It can also help us check the alignment of laid blocks and bricks, and to ensure the squareness of a building/project.

Laser levels are also useful for outdoor use. Landscapers use these devices for a variety of leveling projects, such as patios and retaining walls.

Laser types:

There are three main categories of lasers. The most basic are fixed laser levels, which has a laser diode attached that serves as a pointer. Flasks are used to align a point or line. These lasers are used for jobs that do not require great range or accuracy.

Self-aligning lasers, Commonly called pendulum levels, they are more advanced and offer greater accuracy and faster results. Instead of relying on a human, a self-leveling laser relies on a set of laser diodes attached to a pendulum that is calibrated while the pendulum is still in its natural position, where the diodes produce straight or vertical lines.

The third type is a mechanically aligned laser, Also known as a rotating laser level. Rotating laser levels are typically positioned in the center of a work area, with the laser beam circling the entire area to provide a full 360-degree reading. These devices use a mechanical gyroscope to sense the center of the Earth and an electronic servo motor to level the laser emitting diodes. Most lasers in this category are rotating lasers, in which the diode is located in the center and is rotated by a motor to create a vertical 360-degree line.
