What are the three types of ironing boards?

Although some housewives like to iron on a towel-covered table, an ironing board provides a much better ironing surface. The garment or fabric is more secure on the board, there is more room to work, and if the item is placed on the pointed end, the iron can better press into the creases of the fabric, making the process easier for the housewife.

The ironing board is covered with a woven fabric pad that is secured with clips. It is usually elastic or tied to the board with a thread, so this pad does not move, which makes it easier to iron the fabric.

There are three types of ironing boards: an ironing board only, a compact ironing board, and a wall-mounted ironing board.

Ironing board only

A freestanding ironing board usually has a metal construction with a height-adjustable mechanism, so you can place it where it is most comfortable for you to iron your clothes while standing or, if you prefer, while sitting.

This type of ironing board offers the best surface, especially when using steam irons. This is because the high-pressure steam cannot penetrate the pad and the metal mesh surface of the board.

Compact ironing board

This board is relatively small in design and does not have height adjustment. This compact ironing board is convenient for ironing small items or for having in places where storage space is limited.

A compact board can also be placed on top of a freestanding board to raise the ironing platform. Compact boards are sometimes double-sided, offering two different sized ironing surfaces.

Built-in ironing boards

A built-in ironing board offers convenient storage, with everything tucked away in a recessed wall-mounted cabinet and kept out of sight. Installation varies by model of built-in ironing board, but they can often be easily installed between walls as they come in different depths depending on the design.

This built-in board can come with additional accessories, such as a hanging shelf or an iron plate.
