What is the OBD-II standard?
The OBD II standard was established in the USA and was used for cars manufactured for the American (USA) market after 1996.
OBD II was introduced for vehicles manufactured in the European Union (EU) in 2001 for gasoline-powered vehicles, and from 2003 for all diesel-powered vehicles.
Since 2005-06, this standard has become mandatory for cars manufactured for the Australian market, and since 2008 for cars manufactured for the Chinese market.
As for the Japanese market, the OBD II standard is not mandatory and therefore only those Japanese cars that are manufactured for the Chinese (CN), Australian (Aus), European Union (EU), or American (USA) markets have it.
