Stihl Holding KG was founded in 1962 in Stuttgart, Germany. Its founder was Andrea Stihl, who opened a factory that produced various devices for heating boilers and washing machines.

Due to growth and the need to expand production, it was decided to purchase a factory in Neustadt, where the company's headquarters are located today. During this decade, STIHL factories have grown 10-fold and the number of employees now amounts to more than 250 people.

During World War II, several employees of the enterprise were mobilized to the front, which slowed down its development and reduced the company's production capabilities.

It was also significant that during the next air raid on Stuttgart, a bomb fell directly into the center of the factory building and caused serious damage. So the beginning of the 1950s can already be called STIHL's "second start".

STIHL's intensive growth began in the post-war period. The first disposable chainsaw was released, the first lightweight chainsaw (11 kg, a record at the time), etc.

In 1959, one of the most famous petrol saws was launched by the STIHL Contra company. Thanks to this model, everyone realized that the future of forestry was in the hands of such tools.
