Asus

Asus was founded in Taipei in 1989 by TH. Tung, Ted Hsu, Wayne Hsieh, and MT were all hardware engineers at Acer. At the time, Taiwan did not yet have a leading position in the computer hardware market.

According to the company's history, Asus created a prototype motherboard to use the Intel 486, but it was impossible to do so without access to an actual processor.

When Asus contacted Intel to test the processor, Intel itself had a problem with its own 486 motherboard. Asus fixed Intel's problem and found that Asus' own motherboard worked properly without the need for further modifications or tweaks.

In September 2005, Asus released its first fast PhysX card, and in 2005, it entered the hardware market with an LCD TV, the TLW32001 model. In January 2006, the company announced that it would collaborate with Lamborghini, for which it would produce specially designed notebooks.

On March 9, 2006, Asus was confirmed as one of the first manufacturers of Microsoft Origami models, along with Samsung and Founder Technology. On August 8, 2006, Asus formed a joint venture with Gigabyte Technology. On September 9, 2007, Asus announced support for Blu-ray, and also announced the release of BD-ROM / DVD. Since then, Asus has released several Blu-ray-based notebooks.

In January 2008, Asus began a major restructuring, which saw Asus split into three independent companies:

  1. Asus (focused on the production of branded computers and electronics);
  2. Pegatron (focused on the production of OEM motherboards and other components);
  3. Unihan Corporation (focused on computer manufacturing).

On December 9, 2008, the Open Handset Alliance announced that Asus had become the organization's 14th new member. The alliance's motto is: "New members will work collaboratively on Android devices, make significant changes to the Android Open Source Project, or contribute to the ecosystem through products and services that accelerate the availability of Android-based devices."

In October 2010, Asus and Garmin announced that they were ending their joint venture, as Garmin decided to exit the product category. Over the course of two years, the two companies had produced six Garmin-ASUS branded smartphones.

In December 2010, Asus released the world's thinnest notebook, the Asus U36, with an Intel processor power standard - Intel core i3 or i5, which was only 19 mm thick.

Asus products include desktop computers, laptops, notebooks, mobile phones, networking equipment, monitors, WIFI routers, projectors, motherboards, graphics cards, multimedia products, peripherals, servers, and tablet computers.

In 2017, Asus ranked among the world's top 5 computer vendors, appearing in BusinessWeek's "InfoTech 100" and "Top 10 Asian IT Companies" rankings.
