Optical tools mainly include lasers and levels, which are one of the necessary and essential devices for maintaining accuracy in any construction.
When you want to level a wall, floor, or ceiling during a construction project, optical tools can be of the greatest help. However, it is important to keep in mind that it is essential to choose them correctly.
Laser selection options:
Measuring range - the figure determines how far the light from the diode is visible. The parameter ranges from 3 to 200 m.
Indicators that are too small will not allow you to work comfortably in a large room, which will require you to move the device near the wall many times.
- For the renovation of ordinary apartments (five-nine-story buildings), a margin of 10 meters is sufficient. This will make it possible to mark the floor and ceiling, as well as determine the location of the installation of partitions.
- For spacious penthouses, where one room can be more than 10 meters long, devices with a spacing of 20 m are required.
- When renovating dance halls, sports complexes or recreation centers, a height of 40-70 m is required.
There is a rectangular laser level device with a lower/upper indicator and a laser beam section. Even if the line is not displayed on the wall, the receiver senses it.

To use the additional device, you need to attach it to the wall where the projection is being made. An indicator shows where you want to switch the receiver - up or down.
If the beam hits a line (even when it is invisible to the human eye), the indicator will still work. So you can measure the entire perimeter of a huge room or set the boundaries of a ceiling.
Thus, the ability to interact with an additional device and its range will be useful when renovating at home, as well as when working on very large objects.
Leveling type:
Before starting work, two types of alignment are required:
- Guide - involves determining the correct position, which is adjusted by increasing/decreasing the length of the tripod and fixing it. After that, you can turn on the laser and work with the beam.
- The automatic leveling type involves a special liquid mixture that always maintains a horizontal position. This allows you to place the optical instrument on a table and immediately get accurate wall results.
Automatic leveling has one drawback - with a slight tilt, the laser level begins to distort the signal. This will help prevent errors if someone accidentally mispositions the device, but it also prevents it from being used for marking 45-degree angles.

Therefore, some manufacturers provide their devices with a locking function that prevents the device from turning off when tilted.
Thanks to this, you can mark different angles, with the help of which you can place any decorative plaster, painting pattern, or interior items on the wall.
Additionally, the level may have a threaded internal thread that is attached to a tripod. This element helps to adjust the height of the device on uneven surfaces.
If the tripod is not included in the kit, then we recommend that you purchase one separately. However, it is important to make sure that the diameters of the supports are the same.
Diameter:
- ¼ inch;
- 5/8 inch.
